What to do after the army?

Last checked: October 2026. Amounts change, so always confirm with the official source.

The short answer

There's no single right answer, and that's fine. What matters: sort out a few things in discharge week (bank details, Rav-Kav), know which clocks start on your discharge date, and pick one direction to explore: study, a trade, work, or more time abroad.

In discharge week

The clocks that start on discharge day

The clocks keep running while you travel. You can fly with peace of mind. Just know when each one ends.

No idea what you want?

That's where most released soldiers are. Three good ways to start:

Before you come home from the trip

3–6 months before you land: book a psychometric date if you need one, apply to a university or course, and register for Mimadim or the free first year in the periphery. Most university applications close in spring or summer.

Common questions

How much money do I get after the army?

Everyone who served at least 12 months gets a release grant (from August 2026: about ₪692 per month served for combat, ₪576 for combat support and ₪460 for others), a personal deposit, extra tax credit points and a year of free public transport. Your exact numbers are in your personal area on the Directorate's website.

Can I go on the trip without losing my rights?

Yes. Most rights wait for you, but the clocks run from your discharge date. Load the Rav-Kav profile within 60 days, and finish preferred work within 24 months.
