The short answerThe personal deposit (pikadon) is money saved for you during service. For 5 years after discharge you can only use it for approved things: studies, professional courses, buying or building a home, starting a business, your wedding or driving lessons. After 5 years, whatever is left goes to your bank account automatically.

What happens after 5 years?
It's a common myth that the deposit disappears. It doesn't. After 5 years, whatever is left goes straight to your bank account, and you can use it for anything.
